Not enough info October 15, 2008 Katherine M. Dewitt 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
These books are very good looking and give a lot of lore and such, but very little info about the game itself. The game guide is just a little better than useless, no info about game mechanics, proffessions, rvr combat, ect.
Not worth the money October 15, 2008 M. Green 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought both of these products in anticipation that they would list quest locations, lore unlocks, maps of instances, etc.. instead I received some half hearted "story" describing each character class to show the skills they have which was not orated very well. The books showed some locations of lairs and lore locations, it was done by showing you the same map you can see in game with a super tiny number placed on the map. Absolutely no directions on how to arrive at some of these locations other than a very unhelpful red arrow pointing to the location in some maps. As for the Atlas...yeah, it lists each location but does not give good strategies and again the horrible use of red arrows to "help" point you in the way you should go. All in all, if you are interested in the maps and some help with finding lore location then you will find some use from this, but I would recommend that you save your money and just do a few searches online for better and more accurate information posted by those that are playing the game now.
great pickup for the game October 14, 2008 E. Chennault (Bay Area, California) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a great pickup for those getting familiar with the game. For gamers that understand the MMO the atlas helps a lot with Public Quest locations and what to do in scenarios. It is a great addition for a deep game that does not have much information. I'm happy with my purchase..
Useless October 9, 2008 David L. May (Harrison, TN United States) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is easily the worst game guide ever created. I realize that the authors didn't want to list a bunch of stats because MMORPGs change over time. However, the guide offers nothing in the way of strategy. Every class description is basically the same with a few variations. Why does there need to be a "Life as an Elf" section for ALL 4 Elf classes? This same philosphy is repeated throughout the entire book. The class strategies are vague at best and nonexistent at worst. Strategy for a tank would be to make sure you get close and keep the enemy close. Are you kidding me!? The strategy guide is really just an 8 page book repeated 20 times. The Atlas is somewhat useful as a map but once again, no strategy. It tries but fails miserably. For Khaine's Embrace it says that you should capture the flag closest to your starting area. Then you need find your way to the other flag by going through or around the cave. This is repeated TWICE, once for order and again for destruction. Could you be any more obvious. Stating the obvious is NOT strategy. On the good side, the art is great. The "mood" of the books fits the Warhammer universe very well. Both books are full color and look great. Oh yeah, and the jokes are pretty funny too. All in all, this guide (and set) are a complete waste of money. Just explore in game (to fill your map) and you will have the same resources you will get from this book. More actually because you'll have saved some money in the process.
Better then they usually do September 19, 2008 Robert (Washington D.C.) 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
Everyone knows that these guides typically stink because the game changes so fast. Thankfully, with this guide they have taken a different approach. Instead of being a book of spell listings, gear, and stats, it is a book about characters, background, strategy for each character, and map information. In the book they state that Mythic wanted the guide to feel like part of the game, not a book of numbers. I must say it really does feel this way. There is a lot of information about each class. There is a sections that tell you which map to move on to and what level. Lots of information about the different maps and public quest. There is some decent information in here. It's the kind of guide I will just pick up and read instead of looking up "out-dated" information. Overall I would say this book + the atlas are a good buy. They are better then the typical guide.
