2 out of 5 stars Problem with the remoteh   December 25, 2008
Rochester Eric (Pittsford, NY USA)
After opening this toy for Christmas, it appeared dead. All the batteries were fine. I took apart the remote and one of the wires from the battery compartment to the circuit board appears to be loose, almost like it wasn't soldered (actually, it looks like glue) on properly.

I redid the connection and the train is working fine. My 3 year old loves it.

Test the train before giving it as a gift!

4 out of 5 stars Good once you figure out the batteries!   February 1, 2008

We were very happy with this product until it died a month after purchasing it. The only marked batteries on the train are in the rear car and are watch batteries. For the life of me I could not figure out why Brio would power such a big train with those batteries. But I dutifully replaced them, only to have it work for a day, then we were back to lights and sound, but no movement. I came on here to write an angry review of it and saw the very helpful post about the instructions being horrid. Turns out the batteries that power the train are in the front engine and are AA. I excitedly ran downstairs, discovered the original alkaline batteries, changed them and we are back on track. If it weren't for that issue, I'd give this train five stars. It's one of the few Brio makes that has a decent back magnet (we love Mighty Red, but it loses cars on curves and hills) and can pull a good amount of weight. It also doesn't run off track the way some of the rechargeable Brio trains do. My 20 month old loves this train!

1 out of 5 stars Piece of junk   December 28, 2007

We purchased both this train and the Brio Remote Control Express Train and had no problems with the other one, but this one worked for about 2 days and stopped working. I bought new batteries for both the remote and the train, but nothing. Sending it back to the retailer. Very disappointing for a Brio product that wasn't cheap (app. $40). They're obviously doing something right with the red Express train but they should scrap this piece of junk. Also, neither train fits through our Adventure Tunnel (made by brio) and Sodor Wash (made by Thomas the Train).

4 out of 5 stars BAD INSTRUCTIONS!   July 2, 2006

I've noticed many people complaining about the batteries for this train, and that the train only works for the first few weeks. Well, we had the EXACT same experience, which was very very frustrating. what the train instructions do NOT tell you is that in addition to the 4 battery cells being on the train, there is also two 1.5 AA batteries (on the front train). This is NOT apparent or intuitive. 3months after buying the train, we finally figured out this additional spot. After many months of frustration, we finally got it to work; my boy is happy now; all is well.

1 out of 5 stars worked for one hour!   April 18, 2006

My son only played with the train an hour before it completely stopped working! We were going to change the batteries, to see if that was the problem... But it takes cell batteries!
I wont buy Brio again!
