Fun learning March 1, 2008 Hot Homeschool Mama (Bountiful, Utah, United States) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought this game because my daughter has been discouraged with spelling. This was a perfect choice. She loves to play and is quickly gaining confidence in her spelling ability. It is the classic example of a fun and educational toy.
GREAT FUN! December 17, 2007 B. Miller (Columbus, OH) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My (just turned) 4 y/o son has this game. Even though he doesn't konw how to spell well, he likes to move the cat around to avoid or eat the mice. He only knows how to spell sight words (car, cat, bat, nap, etc), and sometimes needs help with those. For some reason, he always choses level 4 - words like firefighter! Even for non-spellers, this game is fun.
Terrible! June 25, 2007 oilchange 6 out of 22 found this review helpful
This is a terrible game for kids, my daughter is 5 years old and she is a basic reader but could not do even one word as the game is too fast even at level one. Also it takes too long to do a word and is a very slow way of learning words. Avoid!
Great experience, just as expected February 21, 2006 My Kids Mom 7 out of 64 found this review helpful
Fast shipping, product exactly as described. Thanks for a good experience.
Different type of learning approach January 2, 2006 L. netz (cherry hill, new jersey United States) 156 out of 158 found this review helpful
I gave this 5 stars because overall I think this is a great game. It operates like the video arcade game pac-man did. The difference is, you choose the level you want to start and the Leapster then gives you a word to spell according to that level. Then you have to correctly go through the maze and find the letters in order. So for example, if you picked level 1, you may have a simple word like tag to find. Once the game has started, you have to go through the maze and find the T first, without bumping into another letter and so on and so forth. You can get bonus points by chasing mice after you correctly get each letter among many other things. My son only chose to stay on level 2 so far today, so I am sure there are other things to do with this cartridge. One of the things I liked the most was that you had to spell the words out of "thin air". There werer no hints or anything to copy. It was learning through trial and error. I was originally worried about my son being bored becuase he is already a reader (5.5 yrs old), but it really was fun for him to figure out words he only knew in a "kid writing" sort of way. Having the Pac-Man arcade approach kept him interested. I don't know what the price will be after it is back in stock, but we got it as buy one, get one and it was also reduced to 17.99 each. So I only paid 24.00 total with the shipping and tax. I think the original/non-sale price was really high though? If you have a reading kindergartener or 1st grader plus, they will like it. If your child can't read yet, this is too advanced and not worth spending the money yet.
