The 3M Privacy Filter works great and to spec, under two conditions.
First, in situations where you can control the screen view. If you can avoid people in the following two regions the screen will provide privacy. Directly above, and behind you, the screen is completely visible. Areas directly to the sides, where if a person was sitting the screen wouldn't be readable, at least part of the screen is completely visible if the person is above you (standing height if you're sitting.)
Second, the screen provides privacy if you don't care if other people see what you're doing, but not the contents of your action(s). Essentially (under most angles) it's possible to make out the software being used, while being unable to read the text (everything is too blurry to make out, very similar to astigmatism.) For example, if you're working on a spreadsheet in Excel, it's possible to make out that you're working in Excel, but the numbers (and other text) in the spreadsheet can't be read.
Verdict: Decent for restoring some privacy in public, bad if you need to keep your activities completely private.

This product works great and seems better than other brands of privacy filter available in the market. Delivery was done by Amazon's 3rd party vendor and it took ages to be sent!

I purchased this item a few months ago. I wanted it b/c I travel quite a bit and didn't want everyone to see my work when I'm sitting in airports.
The ability to read the print with the filter is acceptble...not great, because it does darken the screen. There is an annoying glare with some types of lighting.
As far as providing privacy, it is essentially useless. When standing off to the side, I can still see what is being worked on without too much difficulty. The only way it really totally blocks the screen is if one is essentially horizontal to the screen, in which case it likely isn't viewable anyway.
In terms of durability, I would give this an 'F'. I have been unable to remove scratches and marks on the screen. I tried leaving it on the computer screen but found it got scratched too easily from the keyboard when my laptop is closed. So I switched to using a cardboard envelop. The issue of scratches continues to degrade the screen.
I contacted 3M about cleaning/removing scratches. I have not yet received a response.
Overall, it may make it harder for voyeurs to see the screen but certainly will not make it impossible for others to see the screen.
