A good replica, but not strong enough November 4, 2008 D. M. Farmbrough (Brentford, England) The Master's Laser screwdriver is a more problematic toy than the Doctor's sonic screwdriver. While the latter is a tool, this is essentially a gun. Thus, the morality of game play with this toy is different from the seemingly similar "sonic", a distinction which will not be lost on the show's young impressionable fans. Although accurately made, and with some good sound effects, the operation of the laser screwdriver is somewhat clumsy, involving turning in one axis and rotating in another, as well as operating a switch. This mechanism is frustrating for younger children and even for adults! It resulted in ours ceasing to function after a few weeks' play. The only other criticism is that it takes three button cells, which are difficult to insert and costly to replace. I can't help but think that AAA cells would have done the same job easier. All in all, a good replica, but the Sonic Screwdriver is much better as a toy.
Cool Dr Who Toy May 4, 2008 Wendy Barley (Mesa, AZ United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My son is a Dr Who fan, and when we saw this online he just had to have it. Now it's the Master's sonic screwdriver, so it's a bit more interesting than the one the Dr uses. Cool noises and it extends out with a click. Inserting the batteries is a bit tricky, definitely for an adult to do - they don't come pre installed. Makes a fun toy for any Dr Who fan, no matter what age.
I am the Master! April 18, 2008 Dalek Sec (None of your business. >:P) I'll make it short and sweet. The Master's Laser Screwdriver is an excellent mimic of its on screen counterpart, plus it's just fun to point and zap things around the house or at work. It is well put together and only makes a decent amount of noise so as not to be too annoying and broken in half by an angry passer by. It makes two sounds and has a spring loaded extention when the user presses the button. This toy can be educational as well. It can teach one not to shine it's blazing amber coloured LED lights in to ones eyes, or else one may end up with damaged vision. All and all bloody good fun!
Great item, but with a few small things... April 9, 2008 Christopher Brian Hayes (Bailey, NC USA) This is a great version of The Masters' Laser Screwdriver. It is over sized somewhat, but looks and acts just like the on seen on TV. Only small things that could be improved are the button that activates the laser. It is easy for it to activate if in a coat or pocket, turning itself on very easily. Also, the neck extends easier as well, which means a slight brush against the button extends it. Again, small complaint, but overall a very cool and fun.
The next best thing to the original prop January 12, 2008 Michael A. Heath The Master's Laser Screwdriver is a great toy/prop recreation. The detail is spot on, and it makes a wonderful companion piece to the Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver. If you're a WHO fan - the Laser Screwdriver is a must. When I first watched the final episodes of series 3, I had hoped they would put this one out. Sure enough they did. A great buy for a great price.
